Did you know that Great Danes have a 42% of developing GDV in their lifetime (in comparison, other large & giant breeds have a lifetime risk as low as 4%)? Prophylactic Gastropexy reduces their mortality rate by 29 times, & the chance of incidence of GDV after incisional gastropexy is nearly 0%.
Bloat, or gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), is THE #1 killer of Great Danes. Owners should educate themselves to recognize the signs that bloat could be happening & what to do if & when it does. Many breeders & owners consider a surgery called a prophylactic gastropexy ('preventative tack') that can significantly decrease the chance of not all together prevent GDV.
